Again?

Although I had just eaten at Farmicia Wednesday night, I already had reservations for Thursday as well. Why? Because I had some special guests in town and had made dinner reservations a few weeks ago.

Farmicia

My parent’s flew into Philly Thursday afternoon and are spending the weekend here. I am really excited for them to be here, the last time they were in Philly it was cold and rainy.

Because I am a creature of habit, I ordered the same meal from the previous night. The Mega Dose of Vegetables & Grains. It was a little different tonight though.

Farmicia

Usually when Eric and I eat out, I convince him to order something that I really want to try, but am afraid to order. He didn’t need much convincing to order the Tres Tamales, vegan tamales filled with chorizo and vegetables.

We polished off our meals and two bottles of wine, then I proposed we get some ice cream. We walked a few blocks over to Franklin Fountain. I had heard about this place when I first moved here. An old school ice cream parlor. It was supposed to be really cute inside, but I never had a reason to go because I don’t eat ice cream. Well then magically this week I learned that they serve three soy flavors, mint chip, chocolate, and vanilla. OBVIOUSLY I then had to try it out.

We were greeted with a line out the door.

But the line was moving fairly fast. Eric and I were still skeptical at this point, then we got a glimpse of the menu…yep soy flavors!

The inside was really cool, and I think my parents enjoyed the feel of the place. Brought them back to their childhood.

My parents both got dairy ice cream.

I went with mint chip.

And Eric got chocolate and vanilla.

I would say success on all fronts. Although Franklin Fountain is only a few blocks from our apartment, so it could get dangerous this summer.

  1. How adorable – I love the chinese take-out box for the ice cream. I’m guessing Eric approved of the tamales? That was one of the many things I was debating the other night – I’ll have to try them next time.

Oh man I saw that place on the food network. It looked cool and that’s awesome they have vegan choices! There’s a place in atx that is called big top or something and it’s a candy store and ice cream shop but with the feel of Franklin fountain combined with circus motifs.

Love your blog, Lauren! I’m the crazy girl at Franklin Fountain who chatted nonstop with your mom last night (she’s awesome). Glad to see you guys liked the ice cream at FF, and I hope your parents have a wonderful visit this weekend. P.S. Your mom was right – you are a very talented photographer :)
