Happy Birthday!

My actual birthday was pretty quiet which was quite nice after the hectic Sunday party. Eric had to work so me and the cats hung out at home. Don’t worry though, they sang happy birthday and danced for me a few times.

My birthday dinner was an adventure though, and had both of us laughing all night. The original plan was to go to Farmicia for dinner. I didn’t make a reservation because I figured with it being Monday, we would be able to atleast get a table for two. Eric and I made the walk to Olde City only to see Farmiciai’s actually closed on Mondays.

Ok no worries, we went over a few restaurants we would be able to walk to and decided that Horizons would be the second best dining option! Thankfully we were smart enough to call them to see if they were open before we walked too far. But they were closed as well! At this point Eric and I just wanted to eat, so we headed to Blackbird Pizzeria.

Don’t get me wrong, Blackbird is delicious and I absolutely love the pizza, but I didn’t really want to eat pizza for my birthday, hah. Oh well, this just means I can extend my birthday celebration a little bit longer and go to Farmicia soon.

Did anyone else have a special birthday plate growing up? We had a red one and we would each sign it on our birthdays. To make the night more special I turned my paper plate into my birthday plate. It says “Happy Birthday Lauren” in case you can’t read it.

And despite the dinner fail I was still happy to eat with the best dining companion a girl can ask for!

We decided to split a pizza, I went with yukon gold potatoes with roasted red peppers and Eric ordered the South Philly, which had seitan sausage, broccoli rabe, fennel, eggplant, red sauce and daiya cheese.

After dinner we caught a cab home and Eric surprised me with a cookie cake from Sweet Freedom. Despite being vegan, sugar free, gluten free, kosher and allergen free, this is easily one of THE best cakes out there!

I had plans of writing out a big birthday post about the past year and goals for the next year, but I got pretty lazy. Let’s just say this past year was a rollercoaster and I did more in that year that I ever envisioned I would (hello running not 1, or 2, but 4 half marathons!). I usually judge years based on how much I feel I have accomplished on a personal level. I grew a lot more as a person and feel like I have myself somewhat figured out. I’m in the best shape of my life and at this point probably the happiest I have been in a long time. The road ahead is scary (unemployment and grad school) but I am trying to just take it day by day and enjoy this time in my life.

    Happy Birthday!

I’ve lived in Philly most of my life and have never heard of Blackbird, but any restaurant that puts seitan on pizza is worth a visit – looking forward to checking it out!
