This weekend was full of fun! And friends! And food! Oh gosh, so much food. I don’t think I want any desserts for a few days.
Friday afternoon Eric and I took the Chinatown bus up to New York City. We try to eat at a new restaurant everytime we go and we decided to try Counter since it’s so close to where the bus drops you off. Dinner was ok, but truthfully I was looking forward to dessert the entire time. We had big plans of heading to Lula’s Sweet Apothecary.
Who cares that it was 30 degrees outside?! I was going to get some ice cream!
As happy as a kid in an ice cream parlor!
Eric and I are really lucky to have a ton of friends in New York and Brooklyn, so each trip we have rotated who we stay with so we never overstay our welcome. This time my bestest friend for forever Rachele was kind of enough to let us overtake her apartment in Brooklyn.
We jammed to music and drank some beers.
Our plans were to go see Rachele’s band play, but long story short, Eric and I headed back to the apartment past 2 am and the band never played.
Saturday morning we gathered ourselves and took a nice walk through Brooklyn to Boneshaker’s. It’s a vegan bike cafe and Eric and I stopped by here on our last trip but we didn’t get to eat. This time we went for food!
We also met up with Eric’s friend Andrew.
There were a lot of options but we went with a bagel with hummus and a cubano sandwich.
After eating we walked a few blocks to Champ’s Family Bakery a newish vegan bakery.
Despite just eating, we grabbed a few treats, cause ya know, we HAD to.
We then headed into Manhattan and walked around (still on a boot quest for Eric) then met up with my friend Emily from Texas!
She was here for work and her husband flew up for the weekend.
We took shelter from the cold and headed to a bar for a few drinks.
Next thing we knew it was getting late and we hadn’t eaten. We all parted ways and Eric and I went to Mamoun’s for THE BEST FALAFEL. We ate here on our last weekend up and it was amazing. This time we actually planned on eating here and it was still amazing.
Sunday morning started with another nice walk through Brooklyn, but this time we headed to The West Cafe for WAFFLE BRUNCH! Eric’s cousin Jeff met us too!
I got the pumpkin spice waffles which were awesome.
And Eric got the jalapeno waffles. But see that there on the side? It’s Mac ‘n’ Yease, made with nutritional yeast. This stuff was like crack. So freaking good.
With bellies full Eric and I headed back to Philly. It was a great weekend, but exhausting. And I think I am full for about a week.
