Never in my life did I think my weekends would be full of people in spandex doing stupid stuff on bikes, but it looks like that is what it has come down to.
We were up early on Saturday morning to ride to Fairmount Park for an informal cross race.

Eric recently bought ‘racing’ glasses and looks slightly ridiculous pro in them. Neon colors also make you look pro.

Our friend Bob had an awesome Christmas jersey on.

We got there right before the women’s race and watched our new friend Sophia race. She will have to teach me everything she knows so I can race next year.

Then Eric raced in the A group.

Stopping for beer was encouraged.

Eric got a flat and didn’t finish, but it was still a fun low key race.

Sunday morning was the epic annual Bilenky Junkyard Race. Eric had planned on racing but some stuff came up and he couldn’t make it. I still went out to support and heckle our friends.
The Junkyard race is the most fun race of the season. It’s held in north Philly in a junkyard next to Bilenky Bikes and all of the “junk” is used as props.

I posted up on top of a car and hung out there for most of the day. It was a great spot to see a lot of people do crazy things and fall.

Our friend Sophia raced again on Sunday and killed it.

The course was set up so you had to go in a zig-zag around these cars. Eventually people just started going over the car and taking a short-cut.

And that’s pretty much the end of cross season!

oh man, when you sent me that, i almost thought about going to philly. i miss bike stuff!
That is the coolest race course I’ve ever seen. I’d be scared racing in a junkyard. I’d probably fall and bash my face off the side of a car.
Your friend Ben looks very sassy in his Christmas jersey!
Here’s a cool video of the junkyard race http://vimeo.com/34006313
